learning resource center Book FINES POLICY - WISD
Overdue Library Books
Whitehouse ISD elementary school learning resource centers do not charge a fine for overdue books. However, a student may not check out another book until the overdue book is returned.
Damaged Library Books
If a student turns in a book that has been damaged, the campus MTS will determine the fine that will be charged. If the book is damaged beyond repair, the full price of the book will be charged. In this case, the same policy for lost books, listed below, will apply.
Lost Books
At all levels (PreK-12), if a book is lost, the book must be paid for, using the replacement price listed in the LRC library catalog record for the book. Another copy of the book may not be turned in as an alternative to paying for the lost book. Media technology specialists purchase books with bindings specifically created to stand up to the rigorous use of materials by students. These bindings are not available to the general public at retail stores.
If a book has been paid for, but is subsequently found and returned to the LRC without damages during the same school year, the money will be refunded to the student in the form of a check from the school district. Money will not be refunded after the last day of the school year.
