LIBRARY FINES POLICY - WISD
Overdue Library Books
Whitehouse ISD elementary school libraries do not charge a fine for overdue library books. However, a student may not check out another library book until the overdue book is returned.
Secondary school libraries (grades 6-12), charge a fine of 5 cents per school day and per book for overdue books. These students may not check out another library book until the overdue book is returned and the fine is paid.
Damaged Library Books
If a student turns in a book that has been damaged, the campus librarian will determine the fine that will be charged. If the book is damaged beyond repair, the full price of the book will be charged. In this case, the same policy for lost library books, listed below, will apply.
Lost Library Books
At all levels (PreK-12), if a library book is lost, the book must be paid for, using the replacement price listed in the library catalog record for the book. Another copy of the book may not be turned in as an alternative to paying for the lost book. Librarians purchase books with bindings specifically created to stand up to the rigorous use of materials by students. These bindings are not available to the general public at retail stores.
If a library book has been paid for, but is subsequently found and returned to the library without damages during the same school year, the money will be refunded to the student in the form of a check from the school district. Money will not be refunded after the last day of the school year.
